Champions League winner Cullum Hudson-Odoi set to play for the Black Stars

The question of when will Cullum Hudson-Odoi play for the Black Stars of Ghana is not the latest topic on the lips of Ghanaian’s.

Chelsea’s Cullum Hudson-Odoi has given an update about his international future, alerting Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate and opening the door for Ghana.

Born in England the winger was snubbed by Southgate for the Euros 2020 tournament, a decision which favored Ghana as it makes the winger available to switch allegiance to the Black Stars.

Hudson-Odoi has made three appearances for the Three Lions but has refused to shut the door on a possible international future with the four time African champions.

With three outings for the England senior team, the Chelsea attacker needs just one appearance to tie him permanently to his country of birth [England].

Hudson-Odoi answers the question on when he will play for Ghana

The Champions League winner upon spending a holiday in Ghana, having missed out on Southgate’s squad for the European Championship revealed his ambitions of playing for the West African side.

“I think obviously when you’re young, you have the opportunity to play for England throughout all the years, from under 15 to under 16 all the way up.

When they obviously gave me the opportunity to come I was in the country already. It’s something that I already had in my mind, set on already playing for England.”

“So it was the thing obviously choosing Ghana or England, and at the end of the day I said I always had the right people around me who always advise me – what’s right, what’s wrong. England came and I said ‘Yeah, let me go and play for my country.

“But I said Ghana is my home as well, so we’ll see, we’ll see. You’ll never know, so,” he said whilst giggling.”

As per current Fifa rules on eligibility, the attacker is allowed to make a switch to Ghana provided he has not played more than three senior matches for England and all the games had come before he turned 21 (on November 7). Also, he can only make an application three years after his last appearance for the nation he wishes to change from.
