Former Manchester United great Roy Kaene believes the club can never win ‘big trophies’ with McTonimay and Fred combination

Manchester United former midfield maestro Roy Kaene has revealed all of United’s failures have been exposed this week, following successive defeats to Leicester and Liverpool.

Kaene believes United cannot win any ‘big trophy’ with Fred and McTominay combination in midfield, after they struggled once again in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were beaten narrowly at home by Leicester City on Tuesday, and more salt was added to United’s wounds, after fierce rivals Liverpool clinched a famous 4-2 win at Old Trafford.

And owing to that performance at Old Trafford, Roy Kaene has disclosed his former side can only win big titles when they do away with Fred-McTominay partnership in midfield.

Speaking after Man United’s disappointing loss to Liverpool on Thursday, Kaene said: “All of United’s shortcomings have been shown up in the last couple of days.

“Look at the performance of the two midfielders. [Scott] McTominay is a good, honest player. And they’ve got Fred. As long as those two players are in midfield for Manchester United, they will not be winning any big trophies.

“I can’t believe how short Manchester United are.”

Roy Kaene believes Fred is not in the capacity to bring Manchester United back into winning titles, and according to him those concerns of the Brazilian leading the club to clinch trophies baffles him.

“I know Ole perseveres with Fred, but I can’t see it. How they think Fred is going to get Manchester United back to winning titles is beyond me.”

Solskjaer’s side will face Fulham and Wolves in the Premier League before an Europa League final showpiece with Villarreal on May 26.
