Thomas Teye Partey reveals Micheal Essien as his role model

Ghana midfielder Thomas Teye Partey has revealed his compatriots Micheal Essien is the player he looked up to when growing up, labelling him as a ‘great legend and his idol.’

Partey has made a bright start to his time at the Emirates Stadium following his £45 million summer switch from Atletico Madrid and has recently disclosed he want to mimic the footsteps of his idol [Micheal Essien] and ultimately become a Premier League legend.

Essien, a legend at Stamford Bridge made over 250 appearances for Chelsea, winning two Premier League crowns, Four FA Cup titles and the 2012 UEFA Champions League during his eight-and-half-year spell with the Blues between August 2015 and January 2014.

And in an exclusive interview with the clubs official Website, Partey disclosed his ambitions of wanting to emulate his fellow countryman Essien in England.

“He is a fantastic midfielder. He fight for every ball, he is a great legend. For me he is one of the best midfielders that we have had in Africa.”

“I think we have all seen what he has done with Chelsea and the Black Stars and for me he is my idol.”

“I grew up watching Essien, Muntari and the Ayew brothers, they are the people I look up to and they made a lot of impact on Ghanaian. I think this is my moment and I have to make sure I take it.”

The 27-year-old is currently on international duty, as Ghana prepares to host Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers in Cape Coast on Thursday, before a return fixture on Tuesday.
