Ole Gunmer Solskjaer believes Anthony Martial will rediscover his form following a difficult campaign last term
Manchester United boss Solskjaer confident striker Anthony Martial will improve following a difficult campaign last season.
The France international struggled for form last term after sustaining injuries, making it difficult for him in front of the goal post.
Martial joined United in 2015 following a brilliant run of form in the French Ligue-1 with Monaco.
He joined the Red Devils with huge prospect and after a brilliant partnership with Marcus Rashford a couple of seasons ago, Martial failed to replicate his form last season.
Following a difficult campaign, the Frenchman has been liked with a move to Serie A champions Inter as a potential replacement for outgoing Lukaku.
However, ahead of their opening fixture for the season, Solskjaer has backed the forward to improve.
Solskjaer was asked in his pre-Leeds press conference if he thinks Martial has what it takes to be Man Utd’s No 9.
He replied: “As I’ve said before we really rate Anthony. Last season was disappointing, we had injuries, he lost some form, the season before he was our top scorer.
“If Anthony is taking all the penalties, or Marcus Rashford last season would have taken all the penalties, that’s another 10-15 goals for a centre forward but we’ve got Bruno [Fernandes] who’s so confident on pens that you can’t take that away from him really.
“I’m very confident and I like what I see from Anthony when I see him in training now, and when I see him in the gym he has that little bit of grit between his teeth again.”
The 25-year-old managed just seven goals across 37 games in all competitions for Man United last season.
