Sadio Mane scored the final penalty as Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties

Senegal win first African cup of nations thanks to a 4-2 victory in a dramatic penalty shoot out.

Sadio Mane stole the show off Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah to win the AFCON title.

In an tense 120 minutes of action, no goals could separate Egypt and the Lions as the game proceeded to penalties. Sadio Mane failed to fire the Teranga Lions in front having missed a penalty earlier.

Following the stalemate tie, the game headed into the shoot out.

With Egypt coming back from a shoot out victory, all fingers was on Gabaski to once again redeem his nation. However, Liverpool’s star Mane made no mistake from the spot in his second attempt, to hand Senegal a 4-2 victory.

The Liverpool forward blasted a shot past Gabaski in Senegal’s final spot kick.

Having previously lost the AFCON finals twice [2002 and 2019], Senegal eventually win theirs in Cameroon.

Noted as one of the favorite coming into the tournament, Aliou Cisse’s side finally delivers on the big stage.

Egypt hopes of extending their record to yet another unprecedented 8th title remains on hold. The Pharaoh’s will need to wait until the next African Cup of nations edition.

The next tournament comes off in West Africa at Cote d’ivoire.
