Mane see off competition from Mahrez and Salah to win 2019 African best player

Sadio Mané has been crowned the African Player of the Year for the first time in his career, after a brilliant run of form in 2019.

The Senegalese saw off competitions from Ryaid Mahrez and Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah to the prestigious award last night.

Mane was in excellent for for both club and country, guiding Senegal to second place in the African Cup of Nations; losing 1-0 to Algeria, before winning three trophies with Liverpool [Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup].

In the year under review Sadio Mane played 63 games, scoring 35 goals with 11 assist for both club and country.

Mane tweeted after winning the award saying – “It’s a great day for me and for my career. I would like to thank all of the Senegalese people who supported me during my journey.

“I’m feeling happy because they will be glad watching me winning this award, especially the people in my village.” – he added.
