Time to crown the best men’s footballer for 2019
The winner of this year’s  Best Men’s Footballer [Ballon d’Or] will be announced tonight, featuring Barcelona star: Lionel Messi, Juventus hero: Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s defensive rock: Virgil Van Dijk making the final three nominees.

Lionel Messi popularly described by many fans as the “GOAT” already has five Ballon d’Or wins and five runners-up trophies in his locker and could well make the podium again. The Argentine scored 54 times for club and country in the 2018-19 season and after an injury-hit start to this campaign, he has scored nine times in seven games in October and November.

Like his rival Cristiano Ronaldo is also attributed as being the “GOAT” by his faithfuls, he won the league championship [Serie A] in Italy, as well as helping Portugal to win the maiden edition of the Nations League. The Portuguese netted 26 times in his first 40 Serie A starts and has moved to 99 international goals for Portugal.

Liverpool’s defensive rock Virgil van Dijk is one of the favorite to be crowned the winner of this year’s men’s best footballer, thus becoming the first defender to take the honour in 13 years. The Dutch was the solid rock at the heart of Liverpool’s defense as they went ahead to win the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Super Cup. [bbc.com]
