Al-Khelaifi insist the arrival of Lionel Messi does not mean Kylian Mbappe will depart Paris Saint-Germain
Lionel Messi arrival not an excuse for Kylian Mbappe to leave PSG according to club president Al-Khelaifi.
The president is very much optimistic the Frenchman will commit his future to the club, following the signing of Messi.
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the signing of the ex-Barcelona star on Tuesday. The Argentine signed a two-year deal worth around €35 million including add ons.
Aside that, he also has an option to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes for additional year.
And according to Nasser Al-Khelaifi, “there is no excuse” for Kylian Mbappe to leave the club following the arrival of Lionel Messi.
Mbappe is stalling on a new contract extension in Paris with report claiming Real Madrid could prise him away from Parc des Princes before the summer window closes.
With just twelve months remaining on his current deal, PSG could lose the 22-year-old for free next season but Al-Khelaifi sees no reason why he would want to depart now that Messi has completed their all-star lineup.
“The future of Mbappe? I think everyone knows. His future is clear. He said it himself, he wanted us to have a competitive team,” the Parc des Princes chief said at Messi’s first press conference in midweek.
“Well, we have the most competitive in the world right now. So there is no excuse for him now. He can’t do anything else but stay.”
PSG are relishing a front trio of Neymar, Messi and Mbappe.
