Messi reveals he linked up with Paris Saint-Germain to win his fifth Champions League trophy

Lionel Messi has revealed he joined PSG to win the Champions League title for the fifth time in his career.

According to the six-time Ballon d’Or holder, Paris Saint-Germain offers him the best chance of winning Europe’s most prestigious trophy.

The Argentine called it a time in his illustrious career at the Camp Nou after Barcelona failed to tie him down with another deal.

Messi on Tuesday was confirmed as a new Paris Saint-Germain player after agreeing a two-year deal at the Parc des Princes.

The 34-year-old who spent 21 years in Spain also has the chance to extend his stay in Paris to another year.

It is believed he will earn around €35 million after tax.

Despite all circumstances surrounding his move to PSG, the ex Barcelona man is focused on bringing success to the French side, particularly the Uefa Champions League.

When asked if PSG could ultimately lift the UCL, Messi said: “I think this team is already done and ready.

“There are some new transfers but they have been very close and they are ready

“I just came here to help. I will give my best . My goal and my dream is to win this trophy [Champions League] again and I think that Paris is the best place to have a chance to win it again.

“It’s not easy. Sometimes you have the best team in the world and you don’t win the Champions League, this is football.

“Paris has been so close to a victory in the Champions League. It’s very difficult to win it. You need a very united squad. This dressing room is very united but you also need luck.

“It’s a very special competition and that’s why it is so beautiful and so important. We all want to win this competition.”

The ex Barca man last success in the competition was in 2015, when Barcelona defeated Juventus following a brilliant performances from Neymar and Suarez.

He is now relishing the opportunity to play again with the Brazilian at PSG.
