The PSG head coach has justify the reason behind Messi substitution against Lyon after the forward refused a handshake from him
Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino defends Lionel Messi substitution after the forward snubbed a handshake from him. Messi could not hide his frustrations when subbed as he refused to shake hands with compatriot Pochettino.
The Argentine forward was expected to hit the ground running in Paris, but is yet to discover his form. Despite hitting the woodwork Messi is yet to find the back of the net since making a summer move to France.
Following a disappointing Champions League encounter with Club Brugge, PSG were on course for another frustrating result. And in a bid to clinch all maximum points, Poch took Lionel Messi off in the game against Lyon.
A decision which the ex-Barca man was not in favor of, and as a result refused a handshake from the head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
And in the bid to justify his decision for substituting the forward, Pochettino defends his decision for the changes he made, saying sometimes players do not like being substituted. But as a coach you have to make those hard decisions.
“I think we all know we have great players in this 35-man squad,” Poch said following the game. “Only 11 can play, we can’t play more. The decision in the game are made for the good of the team and each player.
“Every coach thinks about that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes players like it and sometimes they don’t. At the end of the day, that’s why we are here. The decision that have to be made by the coach.
“As for his reaction, I asked him how he was, he said he was okay. That was it. That was our exchange.”
Paris Saint-Germain eventually found the much needed winner thanks to an injury-time strike from Mauro Icardi.
