Mario Gotze will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end the season after mutual consent

Borussia Dortmund have announced they will part ways with playmaker Mario Gotze at the end of the season, following a joint decision.

Gotze has had many ups and downs in his career characterized by disappointment of missing a Champions League (2013) final through injury, a big-money move to Bayern Munich and the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final.

After nearly four years on from his return to Borussia Dortmund, the player and the club [Dortmund] have agreed to end their relationship at the end of the current campaign, according to sporting director Michael Zorc.

“We will end our working relationship with Mario [Gotze] at the end of the season,” Zorc said. “It is was a mutual and respectful decision. Mario is really a good man.”

Following his release, the 28-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs in the Bundesliga, and the Premier League with reports claiming former manager, J├╝rgen Klopp is interested in a reunion.

Gotze has five Bundesliga titles, two with Dortmund and three with Bayern
