Kepa has revealed he is close to Chelsea’s No.1 shootstopper Mendy despite fighting for the same position
Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has disclosed he has a good relationship with first choice keeper Eduardo Mendy. Kepa (26) joined the Blues in 2018 from Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.
With errors to his game, Chelsea lost faith in the Spanish international as they explored other alternatives. The London side eventually ended up signing Senegals goalkeeper Mendy.
Eduardo Mendy joined Chelsea from Ligue-1 outfit Rennes in a deal worth around £22 million. Since his debut at Stamford Bridge, he has grown to become a safe pair of hands for the Blues.
Mendy has provided enough solidity for Chelsea between the post, and has since proven to be one of the bargain signings in the Premier League, helping Chelsea win the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.
Despite taking his position at Chelsea, Kepa has disclosed he has a good relationship with his fellow. Kepa returned into Tuchel’s starting lineup against Tottenham, helping Chelsea clinched a 3-0 victory following an injury to Mendy.
Asked on how he is coping with the African, Kepa revealed: “Edou [Mendy] and I have a very good relationship.
“We are training together every day and support each other whoever is playing. You could see in the Super Cup the relationship we have, he was one of the first players to congratulate me after the penalty shoot-out and of course we celebrated together.
“Hopefully he can return to training soon from his injury.”
