Arsenal one of the top clubs in Europe and a giant in English Premier League is mostly recognized for grooming young talents into exceptional player over the past few with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Theo Waltcott all rising through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium.
The club has won numerous number of trophies including 13 Premier League titles and a record number of most FA Cup trophies in England at 14.
Known for winning it all, Arsenal is yet to win Europe’s most prestigious club competition, the uefa champions league.
How many Champions League title does Arsenal have
The UEFA Champions League title, a trophy they came close to winning in 2006, only to lose out to La Liga giant Barcelona in the final.
Since then the only time Arsenal came close to win the competition was in 2009, when they were eliminated in the semi final stage by Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United.
With Champions League medal seemly becoming important in the footballing fraternity, every players aim is to hold a medal from the Europes most prestigious competition, and that has been a major disadvantage for the Gunners with players increasingly switching camp for greener pastures elsewhere over the few years.
Player who have won UCL medal after departing Arsenal
Firstly, Thiery Henry, often regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the Premier League, joined the Gunners in 1997 and made over 254 appearances, scoring about 174 goals and toppling it up with two Premier League medals and two FA Cup titles. Henry was a main figure in that Arsenal squad that lost to Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final.
And in 2007, the Frenchman joined Barcelona from Arsenal and made about 90 appearances and registering over 25 goals for the Catalan side, and in 2009 Henry played a major part as Barcelona won the Champions League title after beating Manchester United 2-0 in the final.
Ashley Cole also a former player of Arsenal went ahead to win the Champions League crown with Chelsea in 2012. Cole also won two Premier League title and two FA Cup trophies at Arsenal after spending close to a decade at the Emirates Stadium.
In addition, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a graduate of Southampton youth team who joined Arsenal in 2011, making over 130 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, winning three FA Cup titles over his six-year spell at the Emirates Stadium.
Chamberlain in 2017 swapped Arsenal for Liverpool and within two years the English international won the Champions League title at Anfield, and helping the club [Liverpool] to win their first ever English top-flight title in thirty years.
The lastest and last player to switch camp from Arsenal to win Europes most prestigious trophy is German international Sergi Gnabry. Gnabry then a teenager at Arsenal had little stint with the first team, making about ten appearances across his five-year spell with the Gunners between 2011 and 2016, with a number of his appearances coming from a loan spell outside the Emirates Stadium.
Gnabry a Champions League holder with Bayern Munich left Arsenal for Werder Bremen in 2016 and within a year the 25-year-old signed for Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich, winning two Bundesliga titles in addition to the 2020 Champions League glory in London with the Bavarians.
