Sir Alex Ferguson tried signing Raphel Verane at age 18 according to the France center-back.

The France International was on the verge of joining the Red Devils in 2011 but Zidane intervention lured him to Madrid.

With a huge prospect growing up, he was touted to become one of the finest defenders the game could ever see.

At Madrid the World Cup winner grew into the game and his influence helped the La Liga giant to win significant number trophies.

During his 10 years stay in the Spanish capital, Verane won three La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League honours.

In addition, he has four FIFA World club titles and three UEFA Super Cup crowns to his name.

With Man United still at heart, Verane finally signed for the Red Devils after spending a decade in Spain.

Speaking of his admiration for the club [Man Utd] in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Verane said:

“It was a special moment for me and my family. It’s amazing to meet a person like him at 18. You know, after that, it’s your destiny. Ten years in Madrid and now I’m here.”
