The former Cameroon striker believes a team from Africa would be crowned world champions in the near future
Samuel Eto’o has revealed an African country will soon win the World Cup, adding it’s just a matter of time.
The FIFA world cup title is one of the most important trophies in the world of football. Hosted every four years, it began in the year 1930.
Played across the world with team coming from various continent. The FIFA world cup is one of the most prestigious trophies cherished by every player.
Since it inception in 1930, Brazil is the most successful team to have won more titles than any other national team.
The South American giant have won the title for a record five times. Even though many would argue South America are a force to recon with when it comes to the World Cup titles. However, the effort of European teams can not be looked upon.
The trophy has been a battle between Europe and South America. But former Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o believes in no time and African nation will win it.
In an interview with The Athletic, the three time Champions League winner said:
“I don’t see why an African country will not win a world cup. It even one of the easiest to do. It just a couple of football matches. Why would be be impossible? Despite all the difficulties that nations can go through during the games. It is not impossible.”
African nations have struggled on the world stage. Only three teams have made it pass the one-six teeth stage of the FIFA world cup. The first being Cameroon in 1990, following by Senegal in 2002 before Ghana rounded it off in 2010 at South Africa.
All three the nations best position in the world cup has been in the quarter final stage. Non of them have passed that stage.
