Former Man United goalkeeper has opened a letter to the club after the signing of van de Beek

Ajax Chief Executive Officer, Edwin Van der Sar has penned an open letter to former club Manchester United, following the signing of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Donny van de Beek was officially confirmed as a Manchester United on Wednesday, after an agreement of £40m was agreed in principle between the two parties. The deal will see de Beek stay at the Theatre of Dreams for five years with an option for another year.

De Beek, 23, rose through the ranks of Ajax academy and made his senior debut for the Eredivise giants in 2015. Experienced in European competition, the 23-year-old played a key role as Ajax reached the 2017 Europa League final and the 2019 semi final stage of the Champions League.

The young Dutch international made 37 appearances for Ajax contributing 10 goals with 11 assists last season before the Eredivise was declared null and void amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the finalization of all works and the deal confirmed, CEO of Ajax penned an open letter to Manchester United expressing his delight for both parties and relishing the young midfielder will flourish at the Theater of Dreams in the near future.

A statement from Edwin Van der Sar read: “Dear Manchester United fans, I hope you are doing well.”

“It seems our paths have crossed again. One of ours is joining you this season. And like so many players before him, he has been with us since he was just a little boy.”

“Shortly after his debut, he became one of our best. Especially the last couple of years were amazing. From the Europa League final (no hard feelings) to our Champions League run and winning the Dutch Championship.”

“The team he was part of showed the world who we are and what Ajax stand for.”

“Like you, we pride ourselves on being one of the best at developing talent and giving young players a shot at the highest level. You could say your new star is the embodiment of that pride.”

Van der Sar pens letter to former club Manchester United following de Beek transfer

“That is one of the reasons we do not like to see him leave, but we understand it is time for him to move on. To dream on.”

“And where better to do so than in your theater. Trust me, I know.”

“Please take good care of Donny, and help him dream.”

“Enjoy the future.”

Van der Sar is one of the four Netherlands international to have already played for Manchester United. The Dutchman is highly rated in the history books at Old Trafford after spending a flourishing six years at the Theater of Dream, winning four Premier League titles and the famous 2008 victory over Chelsea in Moscow in the Champions League final, following his magnificent heroics in the penalty shootout.
