Mikel Obi has revealed the ex Black Stars player contributed greatly to his stay in London

Nigeria international Mikel Obi has disclosed Chelsea’s Micheal Essien made his life so easy at the Stamford Bridge.

The ex Chelsea man believes his continent compatriot, Micheal Essien was very instrumental during his stay in London.

It was believed the pair were in very much competition at Chelsea. However, the ex Nigeria skipper has muted all those allegations.

Even though the likes of Geremi and Didier Drogba were around.

According to him, the Ghanaian helped him during his time at Chelsea in the Premier League.

John Obi joined the Blues in 2006 from Norwegian side Lyn 1896 FK. Initially struggling for playing time at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian midfielder later found his feet and slotted perfectly into the Chelsea lineup.

He later went ahead and formed a formidable midfield partnership with Micheal Essien at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.

Mikel Obi was part of that famous squad that won the first Champions League title at Stamford Bridge. In addition, during his eleven year spell, he also won two Premier League crowns and three FA Cups.

Discussing how he settled to life at Chelsea, Mikel disclosed:

“Michael Essien really helped me. Michael always told me I was a good player and just reminded me to bring the ball down, control and pass.

“If you need to dribble, dribble. If you don’t need to, just pass. You are strong. You are fast, too. If you can, just push the ball past and run, run, run because they cannot catch you.
“He was the guy who really helped me and made me have a lot of confidence.”
