Chelsea manager Tuchel has admitted his side tried to lure the France international to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea tried to sign Jules Kounde before the transfer deadline day according to head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Kounde was heavily linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
The European Champions offered player plus cash swap but Sevilla rejected the bid according to reports.
Tuchel’s side tried their luck once again by offering cash upfront, however, Sevilla declined the second offer.
The France international had already agreed personal terms with the Premier League giant, and was eager for a new challenge.
However, the Blues ultimately fell short in their pursuit as the transfer window ended. Speaking of Chelsea’s business in thissummer’s window, Tuchel revealed;
“It was clear we tried for Kounde and Saul and it was very, very late but it was a very, very smooth transfer window because I had full concentration on training and on my team.
“The amount of support of (technical and performance advisor) Petr Cech as a link, and together with Marina [Granovskaia, Chelsea director], was fantastic, so it was pretty relaxed with a good outcome because in the end it was possible to add Saul into the group, which was a key position for us to have more alternatives and to not put all the pressure on the three guys’ shoulders.
“So there’s a lot of competition now going on and it’s my job to be a good moderator.”
The Blues managed one deadline day addition, signing Sual Niguez from La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
