The Liverpool legend doesn’t see the Reds making a significant addition to it squad this summer
John Barnes has disclosed he doesn’t see his former club Liverpool making a marquee signings in this summer’s transfer window, even though the Reds have been linked with a number of players.
According to him, there is no need for significant additions at the club for now unless they lose of of their regular starting IX, which he believes is unlikely to happen.
Jurgen Klopp has already added Ibrahima Kanote into the defensive ranks at the club, and Barnes feels Liverpool do not need to spend on a player in the final third position.
Liverpool have been linked with a big-money move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Halaand, however Barnes believes there is no need to bring in a marquee signings most especially with the current crop of players at Anfield.
“I don’t see Liverpool making a marquee signing this summer, unless one of their marquee players goes.
“Having Virgil van Dijk back to fitness is like a new signing. Ibrahima Konate has come in to play alongside him, and Liverpool still have Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Once Liverpool get their defenders and midfielders back, as long as they keep the nucleus of the team, they have what they need.
“With the Konate signing, Diogo Jota, who can play in the front three or midfield three, and players like Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaquiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still in the squad, unless Liverpool lose players, it’s difficult to determine what they need.
“There are teams, like Arsenal for instance, who need to bring players in to go straight into their team. Liverpool don’t need that. They don’t need to buy an Erling Haaland to come into the team, unless they lose one of the first XI.”
The Reds have been linked with huge talents such as PSG’s Kylian Mbappe as well as Dortmund pair Erling Halaand and Jadon Sancho.
