AS Roma hero Felix Afena-Gyan has revealed he rejected Black Stars to accumulate more training under Jose
Felix Afena-Gyan has disclosed he turned down Ghana Black Stars call up to work with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.
The young striker was called by Ghana’s head coach Milovan Rajevac in early October for the Black Stars World Cup qualifiers.
However, he opted not to show up in a bid to accumulate more training under ex Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Born on January 19, 2003 in Sunyani. The Ghanaian joined Italian giant AS Roma academy side in 2021.
Quickly finding his feet with the youth side. Afena-Gyan was touted to make an instant hit into the first team proper.
Not taking long to prove his worth, the young Ghanaian striker grabbed a brace after coming off from the bench.
His two goals was crucial as Mourinho’s side clinched an important victory over Genoa.
When asked why he turned down the international call-up.
The striker on honouring the call-up said:
“I also thought it was important for me to stay in Trigoria to accumulate more training under Jose Mourinho’s orders, to continue improving and growing.”
Felix Afena Gyan brace earned him the prize as the first player born after 1/1/2003 to have scored a goal in Serie A.
