Vieira has added his voice to the ongoing African Cup of nations saga

AFCON is a big competition which must be respect, according to ex France and Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.

The African Cup of Nations over the past years has not gain the needed recognition in the West. It lack popularity in the other side of the world has caused many to belittle the tournament.

Comments from some European coaches on the AFCON tournament were not encouraging. Liverpool’s manager called the tournament a small.

His comments sparked wild response from many African’s with Senegal head coach even going ahead to say it African players who have made him what he is toady.

In the wake of all this, Patrick Vieira added his voice to the many, calling on people to respect the AFCON tournament.

“I the passion of the Africa cup of nations and will never stop any player going. I believe there should be more respect towards it. Maybe European journalist should go and cover it to understand what it means to the people of Africa.”

The Cup nations tournament is played every two years on the African continent.

Africa has produced host of players for the footballing world, with the likes of Eto’o, Drogba Micheal Essien and co writing their names in the history books.
